I think alcoholism is found in every nationality. 40 beers a day is a norm for people in USA , Native america, UK, Austrilia, Germany, Ireland, Canada, … probably not so much in arab countries though.
umm yeah well it might be hereditary
but i really don’t think it effects entire nationalities as much as single families who are directly related.
and if certain nationalities are more prone to alcoholism, i’d bet its more of a cultural thing, not genetic.
Alcoholism does not discriminate. All nationalities, races, and ages are affected. The stat in the U.S. is 1 out of every 12 adults. There do seem to be cultural differences, but no nationalities appear to be addiction free. The International Alcoholics Anonymous site lists meetings in countries worldwide. Researchers affiliated with the Human Genome project have undertaken studies which show a link between one’s genetic code and propensity for addiction. My father and several of his brothers and sisters (German ancestry) had problems with alcohol abuse. Many of my cousins had similar issues with drugs and alcohol. Even though my husband and I had no issues with alcohol or drugs, raised our children far away from the extended family, involved with church, sports, etc. etc., both of my young adult sons are struggling with abuse/addiction. So I do believe in the genetic component, disease concept. If you are admitting you have a problem, I would urge you to seek help. There are a lot of resources for you to take advantage of when you are ready. Best of luck to you.
