Rain In My Heart (9 of 10)

Documentary on alcoholism.
Video Rating: 5 / 5

In commemmoration of what would have been Keith’s 54th birthday on July 1, 2008, I am posting a 60-minute long radio tribute to Keith Whitley which was made available to country radio stations to be broadcast on May 9, 2004, the 15th anniversary of Keith’s death. The radio show was hosted by legendary Nashville radio personality Lee Arnold and was produced by Westwood One. This is Part 7, the finale of the program. In this final installment, Keith discusses his state of mind, his state of being, and his battle with alcoholism. Lee also discusses what Keith meant to him, and the program finally ends with the video for Keith’s 3rd straight 1 hit, the song that was on the charts the day he died, the classic “I’m No Stranger to the Rain.”

so many people dont understand because those who find ourselves in this situation are ,as she says in a “dark and private place” You can’t just snap out of it. Selfish and brutal you certainly become, but it is a product of what you have experienced…and , if you like, a request for a short life

Alcohol(ism) makes one selfish, not the person without alcohol.
Mark is crying out loud for help, he’s very desperate and doesn’t know how to ask and what to do. One way is to cut himself so badly and afterwards show the camera (the viewers) his wounds. With that, he’s letting us try to understand the hell he is living in. To me his hell already was very clear by the way how he drinks.
It’s so heartbreaking to see how he’s killing himself.
Which everyone in this film is doing.
    Slow Suicide it is.

alcoholics are selfish, very selfish and before any hater’s start with the come backs to my comment Iam a specialist in this field…I don’t care if you think my comment is wrong because it is true…it’s all about I,Self, Me…it’s the disease of “Alchoholism” that causes it not that the person is intending to be that way…

    Woah..take it easy.
I think Im entitled to my opinion. I have had the ‘priveledge’ of growing up with two alcolohic parents. This is what makes me make that statement. Sorry it sounded so generalized…

  5. Alfrunk says:

I guess you have never read any journal articles on the subject. What a sick minded negative person you are. Sad.

  6. Alfrunk says:

What a stupid, disgusting thing to say. Many people are selfish you sanctimonious weirdo.

  7. scumgod13 says:

Yes, I agree. Just because Im an alcoholic I cant assume that everyone found drunk in public is.Usually if they get 4 or 5 pds and a DUI or two then it could be they have a problem.

  8. scumgod13 says:

123Chimmy321 Yes, alcoholics are selfish when theyre drinking. But when sober many are some of the most giving, caring, and loving people there are.Not to mention,Most addicts of any kind are very intelligent. Most dont make the wisest decisions though,I sure havent.

    Alcoholics get selfish…

  10. 123Chimmy321 says:

    Alcoholics are selfish

  11. Alfrunk says:

Speaking of amateur…what you say is not entirely true. Please don’t be so negative.

  12. valupak says:

Well I watched this, but the cameraman and his amateurish ‘therapy’ started to wear thin. Alcohol is physically addicting. These people have damaged their brains and wasted years of life, and they’ll never, ever be able to be completely ‘normal’ again after so much heavy drinking. It’s sad, I pity them. All I can think of for a solution, is to do whatever possible to keep youth from thinking that drunkeness is friendly or fun. Young people found ‘drunk in public’ need some serious intervention.

  13. foxy114 says:

i disagree,Tough love from my family is what finally made me sort myself out and come of the alcohol, you can tell by looking at her ,that she has exhusted every avenue with him

  14. stonecandie says:

you need to help him – you are his mum – I am not criticising, but it needs to be you x

  15. jrat92 says:

@MAMsMom97 Do you happen to know where the house he died in is? I would like to see it at some point in my life.

  16. catherinetodd says:

Ive done everything Hank did but die.

I didnt know how dangerous that lost highway could be
Til one too many whiskey binges
    Brought me to my knees
I saw the light that very night,
Old Hank is still the king.
But I found out that I dont have to
    Kill myself to sing
    Chorus
Ive done everything Hank did but die
And it aint because I did not try.
Sometimes it amazes me, that I got out alive
Cause Ive done everything Hank did but die.

  22. MAMsMom97 says:

Some say it was exhaustion, some say he was in there to dry out. I think it was a little of both.

  23. drfever99 says:

Was This Hospitalization He Was Talking About Due To His Disease Or Something Else?

  24. Tyler845 says:

Thank you so much for posting this!

  25. MAMsMom97 says:

Yeah, Virginia, he sure did. I think he spread himself out pretty thinly at this point. He was caught in a whirlwind where he was in high demand, he was bent on gaining acceptance from his contemporaries, and he had bills to pay and a new baby. He lived in a very modest brick ranch house, nothing fancy at all. But he deserved better for his dedication to his music and preserving the integrity of country music as it used to be.

  26. MAMsMom97 says:

Thank you, Phyllis, that’s so sweet. Keith gave his best to me and his fans, he fought so hard while he was alive for acceptance from his peers. He can’t fight for that acceptance anymore, so it’s up to us to give him our best and fight for him.

  27. jch35vt39h206 says:
