    @sydmarissa I did that too for nearly 12 years, but then I woke up, slowly, and broke away. In the beginning it’s great to have support, and most of us are so confused that the nonsense really doesn’t matter. I was fortunate to live in an area (Seattle) where there were Freethinker and Atheist meetings, and had an atheist sponsor for a while. As I became more confident in myself I began taking partner dance lessons, where I found a mostly sober group of people having fun. Haven’t looked back.

    ” but saying somethings complete bullshit is pushing ideas just like aa does.”

    Actually it’s nothing like that AT ALL. This video is speaking out against oppression, AA feeds off the week. I would know. seeing as how I go to AA. lol
    Why go then? because I still have problems and because AA is like the only free option. How do cults work? Well just like AA. I go like everyday, sadly, I have no other place to go.

    @5150zombie
    This person does not have followers like AA does. Once again here is someone trying to silence us (atheists with AA problems) and keep us silent and shamed until we give in to god.
    boo.

  4. breda83 says:

    @godlessweasel you and me both…

  5. breda83 says:

    @mejustjeri I am with you on that…

    Good video. I tried AA when I first got sober. What became clear quite quickly, is that they claim to accept anyone regardless of their beliefs, or lack there of, but will keep you at a distance an isolate you unless you do in fact come to believe like they do. I have four years free of drugs, alcohol, and god. :o )

  7. godlessweasel says:

    @5150zombie Actually, I do not drink – completely abstinent for over 11 years now. And name-calling gets you nowhere, except on a fast-track to my substantial blocked moron list.

  8. 5150zombie says:

    I can understand not being down for something for yourself, but saying somethings complete bullshit is pushing ideas just like aa does. If, whatever, works for people, it’s great, if it don’t, it’s not. Anywho, I know why u drink, you listen to the bosstones for chirsts sake. Have one on me dipshit.

  9. prschuster says:

    I like where they say that within every man woman & child there is the fundamental idea of God, and then they end the “Chapter to the Agnostic” with the phrase “Who am I to say there is no God”. They’re essentially saying that you don’t have to believe in God, but if you don’t “come to believe” you’re in denial.

  10. Longniddrie says:

    I’m totally with you. I cant stand obnoxious christians telling me I dont have a hope in hell.

  11. mejustjeri says:

    its refreshing that there are people out here who are not hoodwinked or brainwashed by an organisation with a questionable agenda . religious recruitment by stealth .. get them to the alter by any means even if a few are damaged along the way !!
    sobriety is about seld determination , self empowerment and responsibility .. nothing more .. we have to own up to our mistakes and deal with them .. stop the bloody excuses and selpity . just get on with it and do it , then enjoy the freedom !!!

  12. godlessweasel says:

    Brilliant – that’s what its all about.
    Thanks for stopping by!

  13. mejustjeri says:

    thank myself for not being sucked int aa .
    i recoverd with out the need for some ,unseen ,unproven ,mystiycal , juju , whitchdoctor higher power . its called taking bloody responsibility for ones own action . living up to ones mistakes and personaly doing something about it .. screw the selfpity and soliciting of sympathy and excusses .. thats for loosers and resividist relapser . i was one of them till the light switched on and i stopped blaming others for my stupidity ..

  14. godlessweasel says:

    Mine is Sid Vicious. He says he’s well up for disposing of these moon-bats!

  15. NoiseGrinder says:

    My Higher Power drinks, and he couldnt give a fuck. in fact I think he would prefer it if I drank too ! But he aint too pissed that I dont. hahahaha

    Well, it just goes to show that it is all up to me whether I drink or not. Its not actually any of my Higher Power’s business.

    AA dogma stops u taking responsibility for yer own actions. Thats why it sucks.

  16. godlessweasel says:

    The point is the steps are unworkable without belief. Therefore those who ‘flat out do not believe’ are ‘dry drunks’ and AA waits for them to ‘relapse’.

    If they should choose to drink and have fallen for the powerless horseshit, they go on massive destructive benders.

    Returning to AA, they are told to ‘get God or get drunk’…

    I seen it. Many many times.

  17. 2pWORTH says:

    That is my point exactly. It is as offensive to people who have faith as to those who do not.

  18. every2dogs says:

    A “power greater than yourself” does not specifically have to be god. It could easily be the legal system or the field of medicine. Many AA members flat out do not believe in ANY kind of god.

  19. isegoria1 says:

    What kills me about that chapter is that it blatantly shows a misunderstanding of the position that is Atheist. Agnostic is not a position, but rather a adjective of the position of knowledge and not belief.

    They spend but 2 paragraphs making the appeal to emotion and then promptly pigeon hole the non believer and dismiss them all together. What they lay out is in fact “my way or the highway” line of reasoning.

    This is the same stance they take with faithers who do not agree.

  20. OneDarkFlame1 says:

    Yes. I knew there was something not right about that 12 step malarky but couldn’t put my finger on what it was. Now I know.

  21. godlessweasel says:

    Find a remedy that works and get on with it! I dont tend to put things off otherwise they build up and leave me with too much to do at once.

  22. avalino79 says:

    What do you do when the remedy becomes a bigger problem then the problems your procratinating and putting off till tomorow?

  23. godlessweasel says:

    It is really frightening when you read that stuff through rational eyes! I cant believe I was sucked in for so long

  24. MyTherapyBeThis says:

    The funny thing is that some mrmbers are quite earnest in their belief that the “Chapter to the Agnostic” is a good argument for belief in a higher power and that the ends justify the means when it comes to bringing people to God.

    Yes that is a purposeful typo. :)
